Box Score WINFIELD, Kan. – On Saturday night in Wichita, Kan., it was the Southwestern College women's soccer team who played under the lights against the Friends University Falcons. In a battle of Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference (KCAC) unbeatens, both teams continued to be undefeated after a tight-fought 0-0 tie. It is the Builders' second straight 0-0 tie.
Friends seemed to have the majority of the ball in the opening half, amassing five corner kicks in the stanza. They shots the ball four times in the half with one of those on net. Mallorie Lund proved up to the challenge and made the save. The Moundbuilders took three shots in the frame with all three having to be stopped by the Falcon goalkeeper. There was not a ton of sustained offense from either side.
In the latter 45 minutes of battle, the two sides combined to take 12 shots, but only one of those tries was on net. The one shot on frame was by the Builders' Avery Norman in the 62nd minute of the tussle. The Falcons took a total of eight swings for the back of the net, but failed to even threaten Lund between the pipes in the second period.
It was a very well-played defensive battle, as the two sides only ended up taking five total shots that were on frame. Lund became the SC program's all-time leader in clean sheets, as the two ties that she has put up count toward that statistic. She has 10 of them over the course of her two seasons as the starting keeper for the Moundbuilder women's soccer squad.
The Builders (5-3-3, 3-0-2 KCAC) are looking forward to returning home to face the Bethel College Threshers on Wednesday, October 5 at 6 p.m. inside Richard L. Jantz Stadium. Each of the next two contests will be home battles for Southwestern, as the squad hosts McPherson College on the following Wednesday, October 12 at 6 p.m. as well.
