SC Women's Soccer will Host KCAC Quarterfinal After 3-3 Tie at Tabor

Box Score

HILLSBORO, Kan. – On Saturday evening, the Southwestern College women's soccer team journeyed to Hillsboro, Kan. to battle the Bluejays of Tabor College at their home pitch. The Builders got off to an encouraging start, scoring two goals in the first eleven minutes but could not stave off the Bluejays' comeback, as the final score at the conclusion of 90 minutes read 3-3.

In the 3rd minute of the match, Bryanna Kuhn scored the first goal of the game for Southwestern. Keiana Jones crossed the ball into the box from the right side, where Hailey Rouse was able to obtain the ball in front. From there, she assisted Kuhn, who placed the ball into the back of the net nicely.

It was an even match where both teams showed the will to win. Only minutes later in the 11th minute, April Ochoa was able to tie the game after an assist by Raegen King to pull the Blue Jays back even.

The Builders kept pushing and pounced on an opportunity to strike back just a few minutes later. In the 17th minute of play, Hailey Rouse received a pass into her run after a mistake by Tabor's defense. She took the ball, looked up and chipped the ball in style over Tabor's goalkeeper Ashly Johnson into the goal to bring the lead back to the Builders' side, 2-1.

However, Tabor's offense was not ready to give up yet, as they came back in the 24th minute on Ochoa's second goal of the game with an assist by Payton Eskridge.

Coming out of halftime, the Builders were ready to attack the goal. Shots by Ana Llanos and Lillian Grisso were the early signs of an upcoming goal.

In the 55th minute of the game, Kuhn scored her second goal to bring back the lead once again to change the score to 3-2.

In the 67th minute of the game, it was no other than Ochoa who tallied a hat trick for the Bluejays, and tied the game at the final score of 3-3.

In a game where the Builders outshot Tabor 15-10, it was Rouse and Kuhn who led the team in shots with three each. Kuhn's two tallies and Rouse's solo goal made it possible for Southwestern to earn a draw against an opportunistic Tabor side.

The Builders (9-4-5, 7-1-4 KCAC) will now prepare to host a KCAC Quarterfinal match against the University of Saint Mary on Friday, November 4th at 7 p.m. inside Richard L. Jantz Stadium. That match will lead to Stryker Sports Complex in Wichita, Kan., where the Semifinals and Finals matches will be played on November 9 and 12, respectively.
