Box Score OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. – The Southwestern College women's soccer team traveled south on Saturday night to play the Oklahoma City University Stars. Though the box score made it look like an evenly matched battle, the fixture ended in disaster for the Builders, as they left town with a 6-2 lossin the record books.
The game started in favor of the Stars, as in the 4th minute, the Stars scored their first goal of the night off the boot of Saizlee Carlton, pushing the score to 1-0. Just five minutes later, in the 9th minute of the bout, Carlton scoredher second goal of the match, improving the OCU lead to 2-0.
In a wild turn of events, the Builders were able to start a comeback when Natalia Bak scored a goal in the 21st minute. The comeback attempt did notcontinue, though, as Sydney Hawkins scored the third goal for the Stars just thirty seconds after Bak's tally, making the score 3-1.
Oklahoma City would continue to capitalize off their momentum in the 28th minute, when April Hill would be assisted by Madi Caputo for the squad's fourth goal. Moments later in the 34th minute, Hill would find the back of the net again to score the fifth goal for OCU.
The Builders started the second half with a goal in the 60th minute by Kenzie Saul making the score 5-2, but that would only console Southwestern for a very short time, as the Stars scored another goal in the 79th minute of the game to finalize the 6-2 tally.
Both teams racked up a decent number of shots in the match, as the Stars had 15 and the Moundbuilders were just three behind them with 12. The home squad was more effective, however, by putting eleven shots on frame, in comparison to the Builders eight tries on net.
Bak and Saul each scored a goal in the battle, as Bak was able to score her third goal of the campaign, and Saul buried her second shot of 2022.
The Builders (2-4-1) will now face their first Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference (KCAC) foe of the season next week at Richard L. Jantz Stadium on the Campus of Southwestern College. The battle will take place at 5:00PM against the University of Saint Mary.
