Builder Women's Soccer Conquers York on the Road, 1-0

Box Score

YORK, Neb.  The Southwestern College women's soccer squad packed their bags and traveled north to York, Neb. for their second Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference (KCAC) match of the 2022 campaign on Tuesday afternoon. In a well-played defensive battle, there was just a single goal scored, as the Builders would earn the tough road victory with a second-half tally. The 1-0 win over the York University Panthers gave SC their second win in as many conference tilts this season.

The first half of the match was incredibly even, as each side was held to four shots in the first 45 minutes. There were three shots by per team that were saved, as well.

Southwestern would bring some enhanced energy onto the pitch to start the second half, as the squad took as many shots as they did in the opening stanza in the first eight minutes of the latter 45. Though they had not yet scored, the squad seemed invigorated coming out of the locker room. They would only have to wait a few more minutes for Keiana Jones to break the scoreless tie with a strike to the back of the net in the 57th minute.

From that point, with the 1-0 advantage, it was all about ball control for the remainder of the bout. York only managed to take two shots in the second half, as they were thwarted by the Moundbuilder defense from the outset of the latter period of play.

Jones had the lone goal for the Builders and had two shots on frame in the tilt, but Lillian Grisso took the most shots for the squad in the battle. Her four total attempts and three shots on goal were both team-high marks. She was followed by Jaidan Perez, who shot the ball three times and fired on net on one of those occasions. Hailey Rouse was the last of four Builder shooters in the match, as she tried two shots and threatened the net with one of them, requiring a save.

Mallorie Lund added a clean sheet to her season stats with the shutout of the Panthers on Tuesday. She faced just four shots, but made the necessary stops on each of them from York. She moves to 2-0 in KCAC play.

Southwestern (4-3-1, 2-0-0 KCAC) will play next in Lindsborg, Kan., as they face off with the Bethany College Swedes on Saturday, September 24 at 5 p.m. The squad will be looking for their third straight conference triumph to continue their strong start to the 2022 KCAC slate.
