Box Score LINDSBORG, Kan. – The Southwestern College women's soccer team traveled north to Lindsborg, Kan. to match up with the Swedes of Bethany College this afternoon. The game deciding goal would come early on, as it was tallied in the 9th minute of play by SC. The Moundbuilders added to their lead for insurance twice, to keep their undefeated Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference (KCAC) record.
It was Bryanna Kuhn who started off the Builders goal run in the 10th minute of play, when she pushed the ball by the goalkeeper into the bottom left corner of the goal, after a great assist by Ana Llanos. The rest of the first half was calm. Both teams had two shots on goal going into halftime.
The second half continued to flow in favor of the Builders. In the 56th minute Keiana Jones received a short pass by Ana Llanos, set herself up to shoot and blasted the ball with extreme power into the top left corner of the goal, making the score 2-0 for the Builders.
The Builders, who were not done yet, used another chance in the 63rd minute of the game to score the third and final goal of the battle. That made the final score of the tilt 3-0. It was an Avery Norman shot into the net off of a corner kick by Kenzie Saul that ended the scoring in the bout.
Mallorie Lund picked up another clean sheet this week, as she continues to impress between the pipes. She had much help from her defensive back line. Hanna Culp, Paige Roberts and others helped maintain the lead from the start.
Each team ended up below 10 shots in the match, though Southwestern's 8-2 advantage was more than enough to earn the triumphant result. Seven of SC's eight tries were on frame, while both of Bethany's attempts ended up on the net.
The Builders (5-3-1, 3-0-0 KCAC) will come back home to play Avila University at Richard L. Jantz Stadium on Wednesday, September 28. Southwestern is on a winning streak of three games, and will be looking forward to extending it against the visiting Eagles on Wednesday night at 6 p.m.
