Builder Women's Soccer Struggles to Convert Chances, Plays to 0-0 Draw with Avila

Box Score

WINFIELD, Kan. – On Wednesday evening in Winfield, the Southwestern College women's soccer team played host to the Avila University Eagles for each squad's fourth Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference (KCAC) battle of the campaign. It was a battle where the Moundbuilders had the majority of the opportunities to tack a goal onto the scoreboard, but could not put the ball on net enough to threaten the opposing goalkeeper. The match would finish in a 0-0 stalemate.

The Builders maintained the ball for the majority of the opening frame, though neither side had many great chances to put a ball into the back of the net. Southwestern took just four shots in the opening stanza, while the visiting Eagles had only one attempt, which was on goal. Two of SC's four tries were saved by the Avila keeper, as the other two missed the frame.

Half number two consisted of an even heavier attack from the Builders, as they blasted eight shots, though only one of those shots was on net. The issue that Southwestern faced was the lack of quality shots, as only a quarter of their attempted drives toward the net in the match were actually on goal.

Hailey Rouse shot the ball four times in the match, as none of her four tries needed to be saved. Natalia Bak attempted to score on three occasions, forcing a save on one of those blasts. Ana Llanos and Kenzie Saul also racked up a shot on goal apiece, tallying the three total shots on frame with Bak.

Mallorie Lund only had to make a pair of saves in the bout, as the Builder defense stymied the Avila attack all night. Only three shots were taken by the Eagles, and one of those three was off the mark.

The Moundbuilders (5-3-2, 3-0-1 KCAC) would have loved to win a match in which they so obviously dominated the pace of play, but they will have to settle for their first non-winning result of the KCAC slate with the draw. Next up on the docket for SC is a tilt at Friends University on Saturday, October 1 at 7:30 p.m., as the Builders look to pick up win number four in their conference season.
