Builder Women's Soccer Earns 1-0 Victory over Southwestern Assemblies of God

Box Score

WAXAHACHIE, Texas – The first road match of the year for the Moundbuilder women's soccer team ended with a 1-0 victory over Southwestern Assemblies of God University. It was the fourth goal of the season for freshman Keiana Jones that led the Builders to come out on top over the Lions of SAGU.

A weather delay changed the start time of the battle, as lightning within 10 miles of the premises created a stoppage prior to the start of the men's game earlier in the evening. The Moundbuilders started the game out strong and dominated for most-of the game. Right away, the Builder offense put two shots on goal, as Keiana Jones and Ana Llanos brought the pressure.

The first period ended with a dominating Builder squad that just lacked quality in the final third. Four shots on goal were not enough for the Moundbuilders to put the ball in the back of the net.

The second half of the game was like the first half of the bout except of one factor. The Builders had more quality chances in the final third. Because of this, it didn't take long for the Builders to score.

In the 75th minute of the tilt, Keiana Jones scored her fourth goal of the campaign for the Moundbuilders to make the score 1-0. A cross by Caitlyn Clark went through the Lions defense and found Jones in the box, leading her to place the ball beautifully just to the left of the keeper.

"It was a total team effort and a great way to start a weekend on the road," said head coach Joe Schwartz. "Missing players is always tough, but it was great to see others step up and do well. Still, there is plenty that we need to work on, especially in the final third, but it was a huge step in the right direction."

The Builders (2-1-1) will now face their second Texas opponent, East Texas Baptist University, on Monday at 1:00 pm. The Builders will be looking for their third victory in a row, before heading north again to play Oklahoma City University on Saturday, September 10.
