WINFIELD, KAN. – On Saturday, March 16
th, the Southwestern College Softball squad hosted play to the visiting Blue Jays of Tabor College at Broadway Sports Complex in Winfield, Kan.
GAME 1 – 1:00 PM
In a thrilling softball matchup between Tabor College and Southwestern College, Tabor emerged victorious with a commanding 4-0 win.
The game remained tightly contested through the initial innings, with both teams battling fiercely for control. However, it was Tabor College who ultimately seized the momentum in the sixth inning.
Rallying their offensive prowess, Tabor unleashed a flurry of hits that left Southwestern struggling to contain their onslaught. R. Hefley set the tone with a powerful double to right center, driving in J. Myers and putting Tabor ahead 1-0.
Tabor continued to press forward. J. Garcia stepped up with a clutch single through the left side, bringing Hefley home and extending Tabor's lead to 2-0. P. Staley joined the fray, delivering another crucial hit that allowed Garcia to score, further bolstering Tabor's advantage to 3-0.
Despite Southwestern's valiant efforts to stem the tide, Tabor remained relentless. In the seventh inning, J. Farren capitalized on a fielding error, reaching first base and bringing home C. Washington to win the game 4-0
GAME 2 – 3:00 PM
From the outset, Tabor demonstrated their offensive prowess, capitalizing on opportunities and applying relentless pressure on their opponents. The third inning saw the first burst of scoring, as D. Gillen ignited the rally, reaching first base due to a fielding error. This error proved costly for Southwestern, as R. Enriquez and D. Zavala dashed home, putting Tabor ahead 2-0.
Tabor College didn't let up, continuing their offensive onslaught in the third inning. S. Evans came through with a single to right field, driving in C. Washington and Gillen, extending Tabor's lead to 4-0.
As the game progressed, Tabor's hitters remained relentless. In the fourth inning, L. Roberts seized the moment with a pivotal single, capitalizing on an error by the left fielder to bring Enriquez home, widening Tabor's lead to 5-0.
Not done yet, Tabor College kept the pressure on in the same inning. Gillen showcased her hitting prowess once again, this time with a powerful double to left center, allowing Roberts to score and taking home the win, 6-0.
The Builders will be back on Wednesday, March 20th at 2:00 p.m. when they battle Oklahoma Wesleyan University at Bartlesville, Okla.
