LEAVENWORTH, KAN. - On Saturday, March 30th, the Southwestern College Flag Football squad went on the road to battle the Spires of the University of Saint Mary at Leavenworth, Kan. A hard fought battle ended in a Builder win.
First Quarter:
Southwestern kicked off the game with a strong offensive display, driving 66 yards and scoring a touchdown with
Miranda Dooley's pass to
Devina Lytle, taking an early 6-0 lead. USM responded with determination, matching Southwestern's effort with a 66-yard drive of their own, capped by Sade Ervin's run, tying the game 6-6.
Second Quarter:
Southwestern regained the lead with another Dooley touchdown pass caught by
Elisa Llamas for 21 yards, making it 12-6. However, USM quickly retaliated with a touchdown pass to Cheyenne Brooks, reclaiming the lead 14-12. Southwestern managed to squeeze in another touchdown before halftime with yet another Dooley pass, going into the break ahead 18-14.
Third Quarter:
Southwestern extended their lead in the third quarter Dooley passed the ball to
Vivianna Solis for a 1 yard touchdown, making it 24-14. USM fought back valiantly, scoring another touchdown, closing the gap to 26-24 by the end of the quarter.
Fourth Quarter:
Entering the fourth quarter with a slim lead, the Builders earned another Touchdown as Solis received a 37-yard pass from Dooley to add another Builder touchdown to the board. Not done yet, the Builders extended their lead with another touchdown to triumph over the University of Saint Mary's, 37-26.
The Builders will be back on Wednesday, April 3rd at 6:00 p.m. when they host play to Cottey College at Richard L. Jantz Stadium in Winfield, Kan.
