BARTLESVILLE, Okla. — Southwestern College traveled to Bartlesville on Wednesday evening for a toughConference test against nationally ranked No. 10 Oklahoma Wesleyan University. Despite a determined effort, the Moundbuilders fell 5–0 in their fifth conference matchup of the season.
The Eagles showcased their offensive power early, striking four times in the first half to build a commanding lead. Southwestern's defense, led by goalkeeper Hayden Clark, weathered constant pressure and came up with five saves on 10 shots on goal throughout the match. Junior Abigail Webb added a key defensive save in the 22nd minute to deny a close-range attempt and keep Southwestern within reach during the opening stages.
Southwestern generated four shots in the match, including on-target efforts from Jamie Lawrence and Danni Brosamle-Norton, testing Eagles goalkeeper Alessandra Martinez late in each half. The Moundbuilders also earned a late corner kick in the 90th minute, refusing to back down until the final whistle.
Oklahoma Wesleyan added one more goal in the second half to seal the 5–0 result. Despite the scoreline, Southwestern showed resilience against one of the NAIA's top programs, using the second half to settle defensively and limit further damage.
The loss moves Southwestern to 2-4-2 overall and 2-1-2 in KCAC play, while Oklahoma Wesleyan improves to 8-1-1 (5-0-0 ).
Southwestern will look to bounce back quickly, hitting the road again to North Newton, Kansas, to face Bethel College on Saturday, October 4, for an 11 a.m. kickoff.
