Southwestern Women Close Regular Season at Bethany

WINFIELD, Kan.— The Southwestern College women's soccer team will close out the regular season Saturday when the Moundbuilders travel to Lindsborg to take on Bethany College in their final Conference matchup. Kickoff is scheduled for 5 p.m. at Coach Ted Kessinger Family Stadium.

Southwestern (4-7-4, 4-4-4) will look to finish conference play with a winning record after a hard-fought campaign that has included several close contests and defensive battles. The Moundbuilders are coming off a 1-0 loss to Kansas Wesleyan but have earned results in five of their last eight matches, including a draw with Ottawa and road victories at Bethel and McPherson.

Goalkeeper Hayden Clark has been a consistent anchor in net, starting all 15 matches and posting an impressive .821 save percentage with 87 saves and three shutouts. The Builders' back line has limited opponents to just 1.27 goals per game, ranking among the stingiest defenses in the KCAC.

On the offensive side, Kaitlyn Walker leads Southwestern with four goals and two assists for 10 total points, while Millie Hazzard has tallied three goals and three assists. Abigail Webb, Hanna Culp, and Kara Medina have also provided timely scoring, helping the Builders net 14 goals this season while maintaining a shooting percentage of .133.

Bethany (1-12-1, 1-10) enters the weekend looking to snap a five-match losing streak. The Swedes have scored just five goals this season while allowing 68, averaging 4.86 goals against per game. Offensively, Londyn Salinas and Jysell Sampedro lead the team with one goal apiece, while goalkeeper Marie Miera Y Moseley has made 80 saves across 13 starts.

Southwestern has controlled the all-time series, holding an 11-10 advantage and riding a six-match win streak over the Swedes. The Moundbuilders earned a 3-0 win in 2023 and a forfeit victory in 2024, continuing their recent dominance.

A win on Saturday would give Southwestern its fifth victory of the season and provide momentum heading into the KCAC postseason tournament.

Kickoff is set for 5 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 1, at Coach Ted Kessinger Family Stadium in Lindsborg.
