SPRINGFIELD, MO. – The Southwestern College softball team looks to regroup after a tough 8-0 loss against Evangel University on Tuesday. The Lady Moundbuilders (5-5, 0-2) struggled offensively, managing just two hits while striking out nine times against Evangel's dominant pitcher, M. Meierer (9-1), who tossed a complete-game shutout.
Evangel (16-4, 2-0) took control early, capitalizing on a first-inning fielding error to plate two unearned runs. A six-run fourth inning, highlighted by a two-run homer from K. Romines, sealed Southwestern's fate. Faith Campbell (1-1) took the loss for the Lady Builders, allowing six hits and eight runs (only two earned) over four innings.
Southwestern will need a stronger offensive performance in its next games to rebound from back-to-back losses. Key hitters like Lainey Hardman (.407 AVG, 9 RBIs) and Fayth Howard (.409 AVG, .519 OBP) will look to spark the lineup in upcoming conference play.
The Lady Builders will return to action later this week, hoping to secure their first conference victory and end their two-game streak.
