Moundbuilders Make History in Winfield with 10–2 Win Over Saint Mary

WINFIELD, Kan. — Southwestern College powered past the University of Saint Mary with a commanding 10–2 victory, fueled by a record-breaking offensive display and a milestone performance on the mound.

The Moundbuilders erupted for five home runs — the most in a single game in school history — as they put up eight runs in the first three innings and never looked back. Senior infielder Andrew Brautman led the charge, going 3-for-4 with two home runs, a double, and four RBIs. His leadoff blast in the bottom of the first inning set the tone for Southwestern's big day at the plate.

Senior first baseman Jj. Cardinal followed with a pair of home runs himself, finishing 4-for-5 with three RBIs. Designated hitter Brett Nittler also chipped in with a hit, an RBI, and a walk, helping the Moundbuilders tally 12 total hits on the day.

On the mound, senior right-hander Micah Cleveland delivered eight strong innings, allowing just two earned runs while scattering eight hits and striking out four. More importantly, the win marked a personal milestone for Cleveland, who now ranks fifth all-time in career wins in Southwestern College baseball history. His steady presence and pitch command kept the Saint Mary Spires off balance throughout, while the defense behind him turned in a solid performance with just two errors.

Southwestern did its damage early, scoring three runs in the first inning, four in the second, and one in the third. A two-run eighth inning capped the scoring and sealed the win. The Spires managed two runs in the third but left nine runners on base, unable to mount any further threat against Cleveland and the bullpen.

Friday's performance not only added another win to Southwestern's season but also etched the game into the program's history books. Between the offensive fireworks and Cleveland's legacy-defining performance, it was a statement victory and a day to remember in Winfield for the Moundbuilders.
