WINFIELD, Kan.— Southwestern College opens its 2025 women's soccer season Tuesday when the Moundbuilders host Oklahoma Panhandle State at 5 p.m. at Richard L. Jantz Stadium. Both teams are looking to set the tone early after rebuilding years in 2024.
Southwestern finished 4-10-4 overall last season, including 4-5-4 in the KCAC. The Builders return several key contributors, including both captains. Midfielder Ella Wiechman scored two goals last year, while defender Natalie Belanger anchors the back line. The roster also features center midfielder Lou Forder, who made an impact as a freshman, senior defender Hanna Culp, and junior left winger Millie Hazzard, who recorded one goal and one assist.
In goal, senior Hayden Clark returns after making 102 saves with a .779 save percentage in 16 matches.
Oklahoma Panhandle State finished 4-12 last season with two conference victories. The Aggies return offensive leaders Yaddelis Alderete and Emma Daskalov, who each scored five goals. Goalkeeper AlaraLynn Gunderson also returns after starting all 16 matches and making 86 saves.
Tuesday's match marks the season opener for both programs and provides an early chance to measure progress heading into the fall.
