ASHLAND, Neb. — The Southwestern College men's cross-country team continued its 2026 season Saturday, Oct. 24, competing against a competitive field at the Blazing Tiger XC Classic at the Olsson XC Course at Mahoney State Park.

The Builders were represented by four runners in the men's 8-kilometer race, gaining valuable experience against a large field of competitors as they prepare for the upcoming KCAC championship.

Freshman LeDaniel Harrison led Southwestern, finishing 306th overall with a time of 29 minutes, 46.4 seconds. Harrison maintained an average pace of 5:59.3 per mile, recording the Builders' fastest performance of the afternoon.

Fellow freshman Isaiah Jones followed with a time of 31:23.6, placing 359th overall. Jones averaged 6:18.9 per mile, providing another solid effort for Southwestern.

Junior Derek Ponce-Gonzales finished 373rd overall with a time of 31:50.5, averaging 6:24.3 per mile. Freshman Josh Wessel rounded out Southwestern's competitors, crossing the finish line in 35:24.2 to place 403rd overall.

The Builders competed in a challenging field featuring several nationally competitive NAIA programs. Southern Oregon claimed the team championship with 73 points, followed by Mid-America Christian with 115 and Dordt with 119.

Although Southwestern did not record a team score because fewer than five runners competed, the meet provided another opportunity for the Builders to gain racing experience and evaluate their performances ahead of postseason competition.

Southwestern will return to action Saturday, Nov. 7, for the KCAC Cross Country Championships. The meet is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m.
