WINFIELD, Kan. — The Southwestern College women's soccer team will host Bethany College on Saturday, Oct. 31, in its final regular-season match of the year. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m. at Richard L. Jantz Stadium, with a spot in the KCAC Tournament on the line.
Southwestern enters the matchup with a 6-9-2 overall record and a 5-5-2 mark in conference play. The Moundbuilders currently sit sixth in the KCAC standings with 17 points. A victory over Bethany would move Southwestern to 20 points and secure a spot in the eight-team KCAC Tournament.
The race for the final tournament spots remains close, with Tabor, Ottawa and Evangel all sitting two points behind Southwestern. With those teams having two conference games remaining, a tie or loss Saturday could leave the Moundbuilders depending on other results to determine their postseason future.
Southwestern is coming off a 4-0 road loss to Kansas Wesleyan last Saturday. The Moundbuilders have dropped their last three matches after previously earning points in three straight conference games. All five of Southwestern's conference victories this season have come by shutout, including four 1-0 wins.
Bethany enters the final week with an 0-13 overall record and an 0-11 mark in KCAC play. The Swedes are coming off a 7-0 loss to Oklahoma Wesleyan and will face Tabor on Wednesday before traveling to Winfield.
Southwestern has won its last seven meetings against Bethany, including a 2-0 road victory last season. The Moundbuilders will look to continue that streak Saturday.
