WINFIELD, Kan. — Southwestern dropped both games of a Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference doubleheader to York on Saturday, falling 8–0 in the opener before coming up short 10–7 in game two.
In game one, the Moundbuilders were held scoreless despite collecting six hits. Tiara Henry led Southwestern at the plate with two hits, while Taylor Mesna added a hit in three at-bats.
York scored in five different innings and totaled eight runs on 12 hits. Taylor Larson threw a complete-game shutout for the Panthers, allowing six hits and one walk over seven innings.
The Panthers were led offensively by Taylor Jones, who went 3-for-4 with a double and three RBIs, while Brooklyn Hadl added two hits and scored twice.
Southwestern's offense came alive in game two, tallying 11 hits and scoring seven runs, but York used a five-run sixth inning to secure the 10–7 victory.
Mesna paced the Moundbuilders offensively, going 3-for-4 with a double, an RBI and two runs scored. Taya Gable added two hits and reached base three times, while Henry drove in a run.
York finished with 15 hits in the nightcap. Jones led the Panthers with two hits, including a home run, and four RBIs. Kailyn Ruckman added three hits with a double and a triple, and Hadl also recorded three hits and scored twice.
Southwestern scored in four different innings, including a two-run fifth and a run in the sixth, but York's five-run frame in the sixth inning proved to be the difference.
The Moundbuilders will return to action Wednesday, March 18, traveling to Bethel for a KCAC doubleheader scheduled for 4 and 6 p.m.
