Moundbuilders Fall to Northwestern in Home Opener

WINFIELD, Kan. — The Southwestern College women's soccer team fell 3-1 to Northwestern College (Iowa) Thursday evening in its 2026 home opener at Richard L. Jantz Stadium.

The two sides played a scoreless opening 45 minutes, with Southwestern creating two shots and earning three corner kicks. 

Northwestern broke the scoreless tie in the 48th minute when Adah Baron scored off an assist from Mya Cole. Southwestern answered just over two minutes later as Maggie Bielefeld found the back of the net in the 50th minute to even the match at 1-1. 

The Raiders regained the lead in the 70th minute on a goal from Aliza Edwards. Southwestern had an opportunity to equalize shortly after, but Chloe Hazel's penalty kick in the 71st minute was stopped by Northwestern goalkeeper Ella Top.

Northwestern added its final goal in the 79th minute when Lydia Timm scored to extend the lead to 3-1. 

Southwestern finished with six shots, placing four on goal, while Northwestern recorded eight shots with five on goal. The Moundbuilders held a 5-2 advantage in corner kicks. 

The Moundbuilders will return to action Wednesday, Sept. 2, when they travel to McPherson, Kansas, to face Central Christian College. Kickoff is scheduled for 5 p.m.
