WINFIELD, Kan. — Southwestern College women's soccer returned to the win column Saturday afternoon, earning a 1-0 victory over York University in York, Neb. The win moves the Moundbuilders to 2-5 overall and 1-1 in KCAC play.

The victory is Southwestern's first since a 6-0 win over Central Christian on Sept. 2 and snaps a three-match losing streak. It also gives the Moundbuilders their first KCAC win of the season.

Southwestern controlled much of the first half and created several early opportunities. Jade Smallwood recorded a shot on goal less than three minutes into the match and added another in the 33rd minute. The Moundbuilders finished the opening half with four shots while holding York to just one as the teams went into halftime scoreless.

The Moundbuilders finally broke through in the 64th minute. Millie Hazzard found Amiyah Baker, who scored to put Southwestern ahead 1-0. The goal was Baker's third of the season and proved to be the game winner.

Southwestern continued to create opportunities after taking the lead while its defense kept York from finding an equalizer. The Moundbuilders allowed only two shots over the full 90 minutes and just one on goal. Liliana Hernandez played the entire match in goal and recorded the shutout.

Southwestern remains on the road Wednesday, Sept. 23, traveling to Leavenworth, Kan., to take on the University of Saint Mary. Kickoff is scheduled for 5 p.m. at Charles Berkel Memorial Stadium.
