Southwestern College

Conner Cheney was named head coach of the Southwestern College flag football program ahead of its 2027 season. Cheney will lead the program while continuing to serve as the wide receivers coach for Southwestern’s football team.

A native of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Cheney brings extensive experience within the Southwestern athletic department. He was a member of the Moundbuilders football program from 2020 to 2024, helping the team capture two conference championships during his playing career.

Cheney began his coaching career at Southwestern in 2024 as the tight ends coach and helped guide the Moundbuilders to an 11-2 record and a conference championship. He transitioned to coaching wide receivers in 2025, contributing to an offense that ranked first nationally in scoring at 51.9 points per game and first in passing touchdowns with 46. His experience developing pass-catchers and working within one of the nation’s most productive offenses will provide a strong foundation as he builds Southwestern’s flag football program.

Cheney earned bachelor’s degrees in Accounting and Business Administration in 2023 before completing his master’s degree in Sport Management in 2024. The 2027 season will mark his first year at the helm of the flag football program.
