Chris Burks

  • Title
    Assistant Coach

Chris Burks joined the Lady Builder staff prior to the 2017-18 season. He came to Southwestern after a one-year stint at NCAA Div. III Schreiner University in Kerrrville, Texas, where he helped lead the Mountaineers to the semifinal round of the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference tournament as an assistant during the 2016-17 season.

Burks joined the Schreiner staff in August, 2016 after a stint as a Sports Information intern at the University of Mary Hardin Baylor. During Burks' first season, the Mountaineers pulled off a late-season charge, winning seven of their last 11 games to earn a berth in the SCAC championship tournament. Schreiner knocked off fifth-seeded Southwestern (Texas) in the opening round of the tournament, but fell to top-seeded Trinity in the semifinal round.

Burks' career as a collegiate basketball player started at NCAA Div. I Alabama A&M. He later transferred to NAIA Wayland Baptist University before making his final stop at NCAA Div. III Mary Hardin Baylor, where he was part of the team's national championship run during the 2012-13 season. UMHB finished that season with a 27-6 record, and was ranked No. 2 in the final NCAA Div. III national poll.

Burks is motivated to help as many student-athletes as he can, providing them with as many opportunities and skills as he is able, to ensure student-athletes succeed in life after basketball.
