Shane Brookshire

In his first season as head coach, Shane Brookshire has been named the new Head Cross Country and Track & Field Coach at Southwestern College. Brookshire, a seasoned coach with a proven track record of success at the collegiate level, is set to lead the school's cross country and track teams into a new era. "We are thrilled to welcome Shane Brookshire as our new head coach for cross country and track and field," Athletic Director Matt O'Brien said. "His extensive experience and passion for developing athletes align perfectly with our vision at SC."

Brookshire most recently served as the Head Cross Country and Track & Field Coach at Frostburg State University, a role he held from August 2019 to the present. Under his leadership, the program experienced significant growth, with the Fall 2023 roster reaching 87 student-athletes, up from 48 recruits the previous year. His teams achieved notable accomplishments, including a second-place finish for Men's Indoor Track in 2024—marking the program's best result since 2012—and a rise in Women's Track from 9th place in 2020 to 4th place in both 2023 and 2024. The women also secured a third-place finish in Outdoor Track in 2024, their highest finish and most points scored since 2008. Brookshire’s coaching resulted in 113 All-Conference accolades and 15 Individual Conference Championships.

Prior to his time at Frostburg, Brookshire was the Head Coach for Cross Country and Track & Field at Southwestern Oklahoma State University from 2014 to 2019. During his tenure, he successfully launched a Women's Track program, growing the roster from just three athletes to over 40. His teams consistently earned top finishes at conference championships, and he coached the school’s first individual conference track champion in pole vault.

Brookshire's coaching career began in 2011 with volunteer assistant roles at Bemidji State University and San Jose State University, where he honed his skills in athlete development and training.

At Southwestern College, Brookshire will leverage his experience to continue building a competitive and successful program.
