Southwestern Men's Soccer Struggles Offensively, Falls 2-0 to Bethany

Box Score

LINDSBORG, Kan. – The Southwestern College Men's soccer team traveled north to Lindsborg, Kan. on Saturday and fell in a hard-fought battle, as they were defeated by the Bethany College Swedes by a final score of 2-0 in their third Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference (KCAC) battle of the campaign.

The first goal of the game came in the 19th minute when Bethany's Joshua Momodu scored after an assist by Shaid Mclean. The Builders had chances to come back in the first stanza, with shots by Gamaliel Gomez and Trevor Avila, but were unlucky before the intermission. Unfortunately, of the six shots that SC took in the first half, only one needed to be saved, while the one shot that Bethany had on goal went in.

The second half of the game went very much like the first portion. The Builders had shots and chances, but it was the Swedes who scored the second goal of the game. In the 79th minute of play, Bethany's Inigo Fernandez converted on the second and final goal of the tilt for the Swedes. He was assisted by Carlos Zamora and Shaid Mclean.

The Builders and Swedes played relatively evenly on paper. The Builders launched twelve shots, with four of them being on target, whereas the Swedes had nine shots and three on frame. For each side, with just a third of their tries being on frame, it was not the best day for accuracy from the attackers.

After a great performance from Joshua Eibl last game against York, he was tested by two very difficult shots to stop by the Swedes. Unfortunately, things did not go his way this time around, as he was saddled with the loss.

The Builders (3-4-1, 0-2-1 KCAC) will return home to play Avila University at Richard L. Jantz Stadium on Wednesday, September 28 at 8:30 p.m. Southwestern is hoping to earn their first win in the KCAC, and take a leap in the right direction.
