WINFIELD, Kan. – The Southwestern College athletic department has named Noah Harris their first ever head coach for women's flag football. The declaration comes after a thorough and enlightening interview process over the last month-and-a-half. Harris has begun his work on recruiting the inaugural squad for competition in the 2024 spring.
"We are thrilled to be bringing on Noah Harris as the first women's flag football coach in Southwestern College history," declared Director of Athletics, Jamie Adams. "He brings a wealth of experience and success to the position as a former long-tenured high school head coach, and we are excited to see the heights to which he can take our new program!"
After being born and raised in Indianapolis, Ind., Harris took his football talents to Kentucky Wesleyan College in Owensboro, Ky. after high school. There he was a four-year starter at the safety position and earned his Bachelor's degree in Communications. He was a standout on the gridiron, fielding an offer to play in the Indoor Football League (IFL) for the Fairbanks Grizzlies in Alaska after graduation.
Following a pair of seasons with the Grizzlies in 2010 and 2011, he became a JV Boys Basketball Coach and a Varsity assistant at West Valley HS in 2013. He was impressive in that role to the point that he became the Varsity Head Coach at nearby Effie Kokrine Charter HS in 2015 and held that title until his move out of the state in 2022. Meanwhile, he also became a Math and Physical Education teacher with the State of Alaska's Family Centered Services.
During this period of time, he had a ton on his plate, as he also was the Girls Varsity Flag Football Head Coach at West Valley HS from 2014-2018. He returned to that same role after a pair of years off in 2021 and was there until his move to Kansas. He compiled a 40-9 record over those five total seasons and amassed three conference titles in his stead.
He made the move to the collegiate game in the fall with Pratt CC, where he was highly recommended and tabbed the Head Coach of their newfound program. Harris' yearning to coach four-year student-athletes led him to his pursuit of the Moundbuilder job in December.
Harris will be tasked with the construction of the program over the next year to be ready for a spring 2024 debut of the program in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) and the Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference (KCAC).
