WINFIELD, KAN. - On Wednesday afternoon, October 18th, the Southwestern College women's soccer team hosted play to the visitors of Evangel University at Richard L. Jantz Stadium in Winfield, Kan. A hard-fought battle between both teams ended in a 2-1 win for the Builders.
The game started in favor of the Builders as Ana Llanos received a pass from Abby Webb and scored the first goal in the 6th minute. A corner by Lillian Grisso landed in front of Webb, who passed the ball to Llanos, who then scored. The Valors of Evangel University did not wait long to respond as they scored just 30 seconds later to tie the game, 1-1.
Both teams had a chance on goal but could not take the lead before halftime. Coming out of the locker rooms, both teams showed confidence in their play. In the end, the Builders had the final say as Bryanna Kuhn decided the battle in favor of Southwestern by scoring the game's final goal in the 51st minute.
Kuhnled the team in shots (5), where three went on target. Mallorie Lund led the teams in saves (3) and only allowed one goal.
The Builders (7-6-2, 6-3-1 KCAC) are now preparing to face York University on Saturday, October 21st, at 5:30 p.m. at Richard L. Jantz Stadium in Winfield, Kan.
