WINFIELD, KAN. – On Wednesday, November 15th, the Southwestern College women's basketball squad hosted play against the Panthers of York University. A game where the Builders led most of the time ended in a 77-63 loss for the Builders.
The Lady Builders showed an impressive performance in the first quarter, taking the lead 23-18. The Panthers of York University stayed within range but could not stop a strong Builder offense that continued to perform in the second quarter as they led the game 45-36 at halftime. Christy Wiebe (16 Points) and Allyson Jackson (9 Points) were key players that contributed to a strong start for the Lady Builders.
Coming back after halftime, the Builders seemed to have lost all their strength as they could not stop the Panther's offense from scoring. In addition, 35.71 % for Field Goals was not enough for the Builder offense to keep up with the Panthers. As a result, the Builders trailed the third quarter 21-10.
As the game came to its final minutes, the Builders could not hold up against a power front of Panthers, who continued to push with 20 points in the last quarter. The Builders outscored the Panthers in the first half but could not hold up against a strong Panthers offense in the second half, losing the game 77-63.
Key Stats:
- Wiebe led the team with 19 points on an efficient 7-14 shooting performance and six rebounds.
- Jackson earned 9 points and recorded five rebounds.
- Kennedy Ford and Saylee Smith led the team in rebounds (7).
