Bartlesville, Okla. – On Wednesday, November 1st, the Southwestern College Volleyball squad went down to Bartlesville, Okla., to battle the Eagles of Oklahoma Wesleyan University. A game where the Builders couldn't secure a victory ended in a three-set (10-25, 13-25, 15-25) loss for the Builders.
Oklahoma Wesleyan entered the match with a dominant performance, securing the first set, 25-10. Their impressive offensive display, with Evelyn Rohrberg leading the way with eighteen kills, set the tone for the match. The Builders struggled to find their rhythm in the match and could not respond to a strong offense of the Eagles.
The second set was equally challenging for Southwestern, as Oklahoma Wesleyan claimed another victory, 25-13. SC's KaSandra Lyons had five kills overall, but it was not enough to counter Oklahoma Wesleyan.
Even though the Builders improved in the third set, it was not enough to stop the Eagles, as they earned a sweep after winning the last set 25-15.
Lyons led the team with five kills, followed by her teammates Malieokekai DaMate (four) and Morgan Pulido (four). Haley Shaw showed her support by earning nine assists. Defensively, the Builders were set by Sophie Wicker , who made fourteen digs.
The Builders (9-15, 2-10 KCAC) will be back in action on November 4th, when they battle Bethany College as they play their last regular season game, the 2023 Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference (KCAC) season.
