Ottawa, Kan - November 7, 2023, The Southwestern College Moundbuilders concluded their volleyball season in the first round of the Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference (KCAC) playoffs, facing the formidable (25)Ottawa University Braves on the road. The Moundbuilders lost in three straight sets, 16-25, 19-25, 19-25.
In the opening set, Southwestern College struggled to find their rhythm, and the Braves capitalized. Ottawa secured the first set, 25-16.
Ottawa's Radaisy Valdez, Lillian Holden, and Bailee Nickel spearheaded the offensive effort, while Southwestern's
Haley Shaw had three aces and
Gabi Theut finished with 13 assists.
In the second set, Ottawa pulled away, 25-19.
SC's
Morgan Pulido finished with three kills and 15 digs, while
Baylee York led the Builders with eight kills, but the Braves' proven defense and well-distributed attack allowed them to maintain momentum.
In the final set, Ottawa clinched the match, 25-19.
Emma Lincoln finished with five kills on the night and Malieokekai Damate had seven kills and two digs.
Sophie Wicker added 13 digs along with Shaw's 13 digs as well.
The loss brings Southwestern College's season to an end at 9-17 overall.
