Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

(13)Southwestern Defeats Haskell Indian Nations University, 90-68 at Ernie Stevens Jr. Classic

LAWRENCE, Kan. – November 9, 2023, on the road at the Ernie Stevens Jr. Classic, Southwestern College men's basketball team defeated Haskell Indian Nations University, 90-68.

From the initial whistle, Cevin Clark scored the first 9 Southwestern points to ignite the Builder offense.  Clark would finish with 34 points, hitting 4 three-pointers and finishing with an impressive 12-21 shooting from the field.

Even though the offense was clicking in the first half, Haskell was able to make a push by the 9:02 mark. After getting some defensive stops, Haskell's Isiah Strom hit a three pointer to bring Haskell within four, 24-20.

And that was when the Bell tolls. Wyatt Bell, that is.

Bell rang a timely three to put the Builders back up by seven, 27-20.

The Builders would go on a 29 to15 run to close out the half, up 56-35.

Southwestern would continue to extend their lead in the second half, by as much as 28 points.

The second half was punctuated on a Trey White tomahawk dunk once he got the step on his defender from the left wing. He drove to his right, attacking the paint, elevated and with one hand, brought the house down and the bench to its feet.

White finished the game with 13 points, four rebounds and an impression of the rim on his hand.

Zach Hidalgo finished with an endless amount of hustle points, 14 points and 8 rebounds.

And fresh off his MVP performance in OKC, Justin DeMaria energized the Builder second unit, scoring 14 points, 4 rebounds and 4 steals off the bench.

Andrew O'Brien not only engineered the Builder offense, he also contributed 12 rebounds and 5 assists, and emphatically caught an alley-oop dunk to finish the game.

The Builders are in action tomorrow, again at the Ernie Stevens Jr. Classic, on the campus of Haskell Indian Nations University, against Park University. Park University, a Kansas City, Mo.- based school, defeated Bacone College 99-70 prior to Southwestern's game. Tip off is at 5:30pm.
