Box Score WICHITA, Kan. - The Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference (KCAC) season came to an end for the Southwestern College women's basketball team on Saturday night as they fell on the road against rival institution Friends University, 76-42.
The Moundbuilders started the game with a competitive quarter, as the Builders shot 4-of-10 from the field and made 2-of-2 three-pointers. On the other side, the Falcons shot 7-of-12 from the field and only produced a 1-of-3 clip from range. After one full quarter, SC trailed by a 15-10 margin.
Only down by five points after the first quarter, the Moundbuilders offense struggled in the second quarter. A 5-of-16 showing from the field was not enough to compete with the consistent offense that the Falcons showed. Another 7-of-12 clip from the floor improved their lead to 12. In addition, the Falcons were more dangerous on the three-point line, where they made 2-of-4 compared to 1-of-4 from the Builders. The deficit had expanded to 33-21 for the Lady Builders.
Southwestern continued to battle but ultimately could not hold the Falcons, as they cashed in on 10-of-22 from the field in the third stanza. Meanwhile, the Builders put up a 4-of-12 performance from the field in the same period. The 56-32 deficit would have to be made up by SC in the fourth quarter.
A final frame in which Friends shot 8-of-13, and the Lady Builders converted on 4-of-15, sent SC home with a 76-42 loss to the Falcons.
Hunter Garcia was the team's leading scorer, as she had 16 points on the evening. Nine of her points came from the three-point line, as she went 3-of-4 on threes. She shot 6-of-11 from the field and converted 1-of-2 free throws. Haven Matthews was second on the team, with eight points. She converted 3-of-8 from the field and made 2-of-6 from the three-point line.
Hunt and Kirsten Kizer tied for the team-lead in assists, with two, while Garcia, Matthews, Kimberly Duhon and Madi Jones each dished out dimes, as well.
Airalyn Frame was the leading rebounder for the team with 6, closely followed by teammates Garcia and D'Shonda Hunt who both had 5 rebounds in the game.
Frame, Cydney Bundy and Aundrea Wilson each tallied two steals in the loss, as Matthews and Duhon added the remaining two burglaries. Hunt was responsible for the lone Builder block in the battle.
Southwestern (4-24, 1-21 KCAC) reached the end of their campaign with the loss to the Falcons on Saturday. It was a season that started with promise, but injuries to key players derailed the program's progress in the win column in 2022-23. With a healthy squad and new faces added, the Lady Builders will hope to improve upon the difficult campaign.
