Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Builders Drop First Conference Game Against Oklahoma Wesleyan University

WINFIELD, KAN. - On Wednesday, September 13, the men's soccer team had their first conference game against the visiting Eagles of Oklahoma Wesleyan University at Richard L. Jantz Stadium in Winfield, Kan. The Builders had to take defeat, 3-0.

The game started with an early freekick for the Builders as the Eagles goalkeeper caught the ball just outside the box. Just 20 yards out, Mamadou Diarra walked up and missed the goal by inches. The Builder kept the pressure on the Eagles goalkeeper with a header by Jack Etheridge and held most of the possession.

Unfortunately, the Eagles were the first to find the back of the net. In the 32nd minute, the Eagles scored a penalty kick to take the game's lead. Both teams kept on pushing towards another goal with chances on both sides. A shot by Nalan Kentner just missed the right post, and a header by Coby Stroud was blocked by the Eagles' defense.

Coming back from halftime, the Builders tried to start a comeback with Alejandro Ramos, who had a double shot chance that was blocked and just missed the target. In addition, the Builders attacked the Eagles' defense with a shot by Wilber Landaverde that just missed left.

The Builders, unable to score, had to watch the Eagles improve their lead in the 67th minute of the game, as Zlatan Ramic scored the second goal. To finish things off, the Eagles followed up with their last goal of the game to make it a final 3-0 win. Stefan Cvetanovis scores his second goal of the game after an assist by Matheus Ulrich. Another unfortunate game highlight happened in the 75th minute when Wilber Landaverde stopped an attack by the Eagles that resulted in a foul and a straight red card.

A game that seemed even for a long time with chances on both sides ended in a win for the Eagles.

The Builders (2-3, 0-1 KCAC) are now preparing to battle Bethany College on Saturday, September 16, at 7:30 p.m. at Richard L. Jantz Stadium in Winfield, Kan., as they hope to earn their first Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference (KCAC) win of the 2023 season.
