WINFIELD, Kan – Wednesday, September 20, 2023, the growth was apparent as Southwestern College (7-5) defeated Baker University (6-6), 3-1 at home, avenging their prior loss 18 days earlier in Baldwin.
The Mounbuilders were able to reverse the outcome by matching Baker on both sides of the net. There was 34 ties and 17 lead changes, an amazing effort by the Builders.
Baylee York's remarkable 13 kills led the team, combined with her leading 3 blocks, provided a huge lift for SC.
KaSandra Lyons hammered in 9 kills and
Callie Snowbarger would not only have the game finishing kill, she had 8 kills total for the match.
Anchoring the Builders was
Gabi Theut and her versatility with 35 assists and
Sophie Wicker added 4 assists and 28 digs.
Reece Likes had 14 digs along with Hanna Weber showcased 14 of her own digs as well, rounding out an amazing effort from Wicker, Likes, and Weber.
Theut, and
Emma Lincoln each had 2 blocks on the night.
The Moundbuilders are definitely gaining momentum as they head into conference play. Their next matchup will be on the road at Tabor College (8-5) , Saturday, Sept. 23 at 2 pm.
