WINFIELD, Kan. – Southwestern College won their home opener, in front of an electric crowd, in five sets against Oklahoma Panhandle State University, 25-22, 25-13, 20-25, 22-25, 15-11.
The triple threat combo of
Malieokekai DaMate,
Emma Lincoln, and
Daci Stover kept the crowd on their feet with 32 combined kills. DaMate, 12, and Lincoln and Stover both had 10 each.
Haley Shaw lead the Builders with 23 assists.
Gabi Theut delivered two aces and 21 assists along with
Sophie Wicker's two aces before Wicker unfortunately suffered an injury. This put the Moundbuilders chances of winning and the momentum in jeopardy losing one of the nation's top defenders mid-game. But insert
Avery Riedel who stepped in and secured 31 digs down the final stretch to help secure the win.
The Moundbuilders will look to continue the momentum Friday, Sept. 8 at 5 pm on the road at Hannibal-LaGrange Univeristy in Fayette, Mo.
