WINFIELD, Kan.  — Tuesday, Jan. 3, 2024, In the first game of the new year inside Stewart Field House, Kansas Wesleyan University handed Southwestern College their first defeat of the season in a nail-biting 96-92 KCAC matchup.
Southwestern couldn't stave off the relentless offensive onslaught of Kansas Wesleyan.
Wesleyan established a dominant shooting presence in the first half, shooting an impressive 66.67% from the field, including a scorching 88.89% from beyond the arc. Giving Kansas Wesleyan a 57-46 lead heading into halftime.
However, The Builders mounted a late second half comeback, narrowing the gap with a strong defensive effort, but could never take the lead. Â Wesleyan managed to maintain their lead from crucial points at the free-throw line down the stretch.
Cevin Clark led Southwestern with an impressive 22-point, five rebound performance. Closely followed by Mason Thiessen's 21 points, seven rebounds, and one block.
Jarvis Jennings was also huge, contributing 19 points, nine rebounds, two assists, and two steals.
Andrew O'Brien added 18 points, 12 rebounds, and dished out six assists.
Wesleyan's Alex Littlejohn led all scorers with a 31-point display, well-supported by Jun Murdock and Easton Hunter, who contributed 18 and 17 points.
The Moundbuilders will be on the road at McPherson College (9-3, 4-2), Saturday, Jan. 6, at 5pm.
