Builders Offensive Attack Defeats McPherson 4-2 on the Road

McPHERSON, Kan. – Southwestern College men's soccer earned a crucial 4-2 victory on the road against McPherson College, in Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference (KCAC) action. The win improves the Builders to 4-6 overall and 4-3 in conference play, while McPherson drops to 4-8-1 overall and 3-4-1 in KCAC.
 
Southwestern came out firing, opening the scoring early in the sixth minute when Jack Bagley-Etheridge converted a penalty kick to give the Builders a 1-0 lead. Just over 12 minutes later, Carlos Cantu doubled the advantage with his first goal of the season, assisted by Hector Hernandez, putting Southwestern up 2-0.
 
McPherson responded quickly with two goals from Anthony Pereira, the first in the 19th minute and the second just seven minutes later, bringing the match level at 2-2. Pereira's second goal was assisted by Nathan Van Wyck.
 
The Builders regained control before halftime, as Connor Inlow netted his first goal of the season in the 34th minute, again with Hector Hernandez assisting, giving Southwestern a 3-2 lead at the break.
 
In the second half, Hernandez capped off his impressive performance by scoring a goal of his own in the 68th minute, sealing the 4-2 victory for Southwestern. Hernandez finished with one goal and two assists in the match.
 
SC edged McPherson in shots, finishing with nine attempts to McPherson's seven, and both teams recorded three saves each. The Builders were efficient, with seven of their nine shots on target.
 
The Builders will next host Friends University (4-6-2, 4-3-0) on Wednesday, Oct. 16, 7:30 pm, at Richard L. Jantz Stadium as they continue KCAC play.
