WINFIELD, Kan. — The Southwestern College Moundbuilders (6-8-1) fell 0-2 to the Saint Mary Spires (7-5) in a pivotal conference matchup that would have allowed the Builders to host a home playoff match at Richard L. Jantz Stadium.
Both teams battled fiercely in the first half, entering halftime locked at 0-0. However, the second half shifted dramatically when Huib Siefkes scored for the Spires just over five minutes after the break, breaking the deadlock at the 50:33 mark.
The Moundbuilders fought hard to regain control, but momentum stayed with Saint Mary. The Spires extended their lead with a penalty kick goal from Oscar Sandoval at 70:35, putting the Moundbuilders in a difficult position.
Despite the setbacks, Southwestern's goalkeeper
Andre Luiten had three crucial saves, his efforts, however, were not enough to turn the tide.
Senior night will be Saturday, Nov. 2 at 7 p.m. at Richard L. Jantz Stadium.
