WINFIELD, Kan. -Â The Moundbuilders are coming off a thrilling 89-86 victory over McPherson College in their most recent outing, a win that improved their conference record to 1-0. Southwestern has been led by senior guard
Evan Barber, who is averaging 14.8 points per game, and dynamic forward
Zach Hidalgo, who is putting up 15 points and a team-high 15.5 rebounds per game. As a team, Southwestern has dominated in the paint and from beyond the arc, ranking among the top in the KCAC in field goal percentage (.441) and 3-point shooting (.382).
Bethel College, meanwhile, will look to bounce back after suffering an 84-72 loss to Saint Mary in their KCAC opener on November 16. The Threshers have been led by senior forward Carmelo Yakubu, who is averaging 18 points and 6.7 rebounds per game, and Eli Wiseman, who is contributing 13 points per contest. Bethel has been a high-scoring team so far this season, averaging 83 points per game, but has struggled defensively, allowing opponents to score an average of 84 points per game.
The Moundbuilders' strength this season has been their rebounding, where they have outpaced opponents by an average of 20.8 boards per game, a key stat they will look to exploit against a Bethel team that has been less effective on the glass (35.9 rebounds per game).
Southwestern will also have to contend with Bethel's perimeter shooting, as the Threshers have been solid from beyond the arc, hitting 38.1% of their 3-pointers. However, the Moundbuilders' defense, which is holding opponents to just 64.2 points per game, will look to keep Bethel's shooters in check.
This contest will be crucial for both teams as they continue their conference campaigns. Southwestern aims to remain unbeaten and build momentum for the remainder of the season, while Bethel will seek its first conference win and defend home court.
