WINFIELD, Kan. – Southwestern College men's basketball showcased a dominant performance securing a commanding 101-67 victory over Haskell Indian Nations University at Stewart Field House. Fueled by Austin Hilton's electric 20-point contribution off the bench, the Moundbuilders improved to 6-2 on the season.
Southwestern set the tone early, racing to a 55-26 halftime lead behind efficient shooting and relentless defensive pressure. Hilton provided a spark with 7-of-9 shooting from the field, including 6-of-8 from beyond the arc, while also collecting seven rebounds.
As a team, the Builders hit 18 three pointers from beyond the arc on 38 attempts.
Wyatt Bell returned to form with a much-needed 18-point performance on 8-of-12 shooting. Bell's aggressive play in the paint and mid-range helped keep Haskell on their heels throughout the game.
Trey Abasolo chipped in 12 points, including three treys, while adding four rebounds in just 15 minutes of play. Zach Hidalgo delivered a dominant presence inside, posting a double-double with 10 points and a game-high 14 rebounds.
Ronnail Tape also scored in double figures with 10 points, showing off his versatility with a three-pointer and key defensive stops. Meanwhile, Evan Barber orchestrated the offense efficiently, dishing out a game-high 10 assists while grabbing four rebounds.
The Moundbuilders dominated in every facet of the game, outscoring Haskell 46-23 in bench points and 36-24 in the paint. Southwestern also controlled the glass with 59 total rebounds, including 21 on the offensive end, resulting in 31 second-chance points.
Haskell (3-11) struggled to match Southwestern's pace and efficiency, despite scoring 23 points off their bench. The Indians were led by a balanced effort but could not overcome Southwestern's firepower.
After the Thanksgiving holiday, the Builders are home Wednesday, Dec. 4, at 7 p.m., against Ottawa University on Faculty Staff Night.
