WINFIELD, Kan. — Southwestern College men's basketball team fought hard in a close KCAC matchup but fell to Oklahoma Wesleyan, 75-71, at Stewart Field House.
Wyatt Bell led the Builders with 21 points, including three 3-pointers and a 6-for-7 performance from the free-throw line. Trey Abasolo added 15 points, connecting on three shots from beyond the arc, while Evan Barber chipped in 12 points and pulled down eight rebounds.
For Oklahoma Wesleyan, Derrick Talton paced the Eagles with a game-high 25 points, shooting 10-of-18 from the field and adding two rebounds. Yashi McKenzie contributed 12 points and grabbed four rebounds, while Isaac Stanek added nine points, including a perfect 5-for-5 from the free-throw line. Temaje Izuagbe and Nick Bene chipped in six and five points, respectively, helping the Eagles secure the victory.
Despite shooting an impressive 14-for-42 from three-point range, the Builders couldn't overcome a second-half surge by the Eagles, who outscored Southwestern 47-43 in the final 20 minutes. Oklahoma Wesleyan's
The Builders were active on the boards, outrebounding the Eagles 41-31 and scoring 14 second-chance points. However, turnovers proved costly as the Eagles capitalized with 10 points off Southwestern's 15 giveaways.
The loss drops Southwestern to 8-3 on the season and 3-3 in conference play. They'll look to bounce back in their next matchup as they continue their KCAC schedule as they head to Bethany College.
