Southwestern Moundbuilders Set to Face Bethany College Swedes

Winfield, Kan. — The Southwestern College Moundbuilders (8-3, 3-3) will look to bounce back from a tough home loss as they take on the Bethany College Swedes (5-6, 2-4) this Saturday, December 14, at 3:00 PM in Lindsborg, Kansas.

Southwestern comes into the game on the heels of a narrow 75-71 loss to Oklahoma Wesleyan on Wednesday, but the Moundbuilders have been impressive this season, particularly on offense, averaging 79.6 points per game. They will rely on their high-powered attack led by sophomore guard Evan Barber (13.7 PPG) and Junior guard Wyatt Bell (18.0 PPG), both of whom have been critical in the team's early success.

Bethany has struggled in conference play, dropping four of their first six KCAC games. However, they are led by standout junior guard JR Cison, who is averaging 16.6 points per game and shooting 47.0% from the field. The Swedes will need Cison, along with Emmanuel Akpan (15.1 PPG) and Maurice Cudjo II (8.5 PPG), to step up in a big way if they hope to secure a much-needed win.

The game will be a pivotal one for both teams as they look to improve their standing in the KCAC. Southwestern has shown strength in rebounding, leading the conference with a +18.3 margin, and will look to use their size and depth to overpower Bethany. The Swedes, on the other hand, will need to improve their turnover management, as they've averaged 14.5 turnovers per game compared to Southwestern's 14.2.

Saturday's matchup marks the 101st all-time meeting between the two programs, with Southwestern holding a slight edge in the series. The Moundbuilders have won six of the last eight matchups, but Bethany is always a tough competitor on their home court.
