NORTH NEWTON, KAN. – On Saturday, February 10
th, the Southwestern College Women's basketball squad made their way to North Newton, Kan., to battle the Threshers of Bethel College. A game where the Builders struggled against a strong Threshers offense ended in a 81-54 loss for Southwestern.
Breaking down the quarters, the first quarter saw Bethel taking an initial lead, ending 20-15. The second quarter widened the gap further as Bethel extended their lead to 30-15, showcasing efficient shooting with a field goal percentage of 52.63%. Even though Southwestern improved their field goal percentage to 40.00%, it was not enough to compete with the Threshers offense.
As the game progressed into the third quarter, Bethel continued their dominance, outscoring Southwestern 20-14, further solidifying their lead. Going into the fourth quarter, Southwestern made an effort to come back, but ultimately Bethel managed to maintain their advantage as they won the final period 11-10.
Despite the loss, Southwestern had standout performances from several players.
Christy Wiebe showcased her skills with an impressive stat line of ten points and an astounding 20 rebounds. Additionally,
Saylee Smith contributed ten points and two rebounds, while
Allyson Frank added eight points and two rebounds.
The Builders will be back on Wednesday, February 14
th at 6:00 p.m. when they host play to the Falcons of Friends University at Stewart Field House in Winfield, Kan.
