SALINA, KAN. – On Saturday, the Southwestern College women's basketball squad went on the road to battle the Coyotes of Kansas Wesleyan University in Salina, Kan. A hard-fought battle from both sides, ultimately ended in a 89-74 win for Kansas Wesleyan University.
Right from the tip-off, it was evident that both teams were evenly matched, with Kansas Wesleyan holding a narrow 19-17 lead at the end of the first quarter. Despite the Builders valiant efforts, highlighted by a respectable 37.50% field goal percentage and flawless free throw shooting in the opening quarter, Kansas Wesleyan managed to maintain their slight edge.
The fight continued in the second quarter showing both teams trading baskets, but Kansas Wesleyan maintained their slim advantage, outscoring Southwestern 19-18. Southwestern's field goal percentage dropped to 28.57%, but their free throw shooting remained solid at 83.33%.
In the pivotal third quarter, Kansas Wesleyan surged ahead with a 25-18 run, capitalizing on a 44.44% field goal shooting performance. Southwestern struggled defensively, allowing Kansas Wesleyan to extend their lead.
Entering the final quarter, Southwestern fought valiantly to mount a comeback, but Kansas Wesleyan's offensive efficiency prevailed. With a 26-21 scoring output in the fourth quarter, Kansas Wesleyan sealed the victory.
Leading the charge for Southwestern was
Christy Wiebe, who delivered a standout double-double performance, notching 16 points and securing an impressive 14 rebounds.
Kennedy Ford contributed 14 points, while
Heather Chiesi and
Saylee Smith added 12 and 10 points, respectively, demonstrating the depth of talent within the Builders roster.

st at 5:00 p.m. when they battle McPherson College at Stewart Field House in Winfield, Kan.
