WINFIELD, KAN. – On Wednesday night, February 21
st, the Southwestern College women's basketball squad hosted play to McPherson College on Senior night at Stewart Field House in Winfield, Kan. Despite the spirited efforts of Southwestern's seniors, McPherson emerged victorious with a final score of 73-62.
Both teams started the game with intensity, matching each other shot for shot. McPherson College and Southwestern College exhibited equal prowess, each scoring 17 points in the opening quarter. The field goal percentages were identical at 33.33%, indicating a tightly contested battle right from the tip-off.
McPherson College seized control in the second quarter, demonstrating their offensive firepower with 22 points. Southwestern College faced difficulties finding their rhythm, managing only 8 points in the quarter. McPherson's field goal percentage surged to 52.94%, showcasing their efficiency on offense, while Southwestern struggled at 12.50%.
The third quarter saw a slight dip in scoring compared to the explosive second quarter. Both teams maintained a competitive edge, with McPherson and Southwestern scoring 17 and 13 points respectively. Field goal percentages remained relatively stable, indicating a balanced performance from both sides as they battled for momentum.
As the game entered its final stretch, Southwestern College mounted a comeback effort, energized by the support of the home crowd on Senior Night. They outscored McPherson College 25-17 in the fourth quarter, showcasing resilience and determination. Southwestern's field goal percentage improved to 36.36%, while McPherson's dropped to 25.00%. Despite their late surge, Southwestern ultimately fell short, unable to overcome the deficit established earlier in the game.

Hunter Garcia displayed commendable performances for Southwestern. Wiebe's dominance in the rebounds department with 13 boards, along with her seven points, contributed significantly to the team's efforts. Garcia's contribution of ten points and five rebounds also added to the team's performance. However, it was
Macey Pond who stood out as a shining star for Southwestern, leading the team in points with an impressive 17, accompanied by six rebounds.
The Builders will be back in action for their last game of the season on Saturday, February 25
th at 5:00 p.m. when they battle Bethany College at Lindsborg, Kan.
