Game Recap: Baseball |

Moundbuilders Baseball Drop Three at Home

WINFIELD, Kan. — Southwestern was swept by Ottawa in a three-game series at home, 12-4, 12-1, and 7-5. The Builders forced extra innings in the third game, but weren't able to cool off the Braves bats.

Game 1 vs. Ottawa | Ottawa 12, Southwestern 4

Game one on Friday, February 23, Ottawa won 12-4. Southwestern had a lead in the third inning after a Carlos Camacho 2 run homerun, 3-2.

But with the score tied, 4-4 in the sixth inning, Ottawa's offense exploded led by Johnny Vulcano's grand slam. The Braves scored eight runs in the sixth and went on to win, 12-4. The Builders finished with 12 hits, three rbi's, and stranded nine base runners.

Game 2 vs. Ottawa | Ottawa 12, Southwestern 1

Game two on Saturday February 24, saw Ottawa's dominance continue, finishing with a commanding 12-1 victory.

A strong second inning for Ottawa, scoring eight runs, highlighted by a Blaine Thomas homer, set the tone for the game.

Skyler Espenosa was able to move the runners over and score Camacho in the second inning, but that would be the only run scored for the game. Ottawa held Southwestern to three hits and seven scoreless innings.

Game 3 vs. Ottawa | Ottawa 7, Southwestern 5

In the final game of the series, Southwester was able to rally late and tie up the game in the seventh inning from a Logan Gage sacrifice fly to left field to score Andrew Brown, 5-5.

But Ottawa's Vulcano homered in the seventh inning to take the 5-7 win against the Builders.

Southwestern will be back on the diamond Friday, March 1 at 1 pm, hosting Oklahoma Wesleyan (9-6, 5-1).
