Softball Drops Two to Evangel

WINFIELD, Kan.  — Evangel (MO) dominated Southwestern in a decisive victory, securing an 11-1 win in the first game of their softball clash.

Evangel took an early lead, scoring five runs in the first inning, setting the tone for the rest of the game.

Southwestern managed to get on the board in the third inning, but it wasn't enough to slow down Evangel's momentum.

Despite Gina Hernandez, who singled to bring in a run, Evangel's offense remained relentless.

Pitcher, Ashland Diggs led the charge for Evangel, allowing only one run and four hits while striking out three in five innings of work.

Southwestern's F. Campbell gave up 11 runs on 10 hits in her five innings pitched.

In game two, Southwestern jumped to an early lead in the bottom of the first inning, with Hannah Hlavenka's single driving in a run, followed by homerun to the right field gap from Reagan Wright that brought in three more, putting Southwestern up 4-0.

Evangel quickly turned the tide in the top of the third inning, with Daizie Riggs' double bringing in two runs followed by Karlie Romines' single that drove in another, 4-3.

Annslee Leeviraph doubled, scoring Romines, 4-4.

Evangel's offense continued to dominate, adding two runs in the fifth and four more runs in the sixth, 4-10 .

Pitcher Jordan Gates started for Southwestern, but struggled, allowing six runs on nine hits in just 2.2 innings pitched. Addison Johnson took over but also faced difficulty, giving up four runs on nine hits in three innings of work.

Southwestern will be on the road next, Saturday, March 16, for a double header against Tabor, fist pitch at 1pm.
