Builder Baseball Falls to Kansas Wesleyan University on the Road

WINFIELD, KAN. -  On Sunday, March 17th, the Southwestern College Baseball squad traveled to Salina, Kan., to battle Kansas Wesleyan University. The Builders ended up losing both games against a strong Coyotes offense.

GAME 1 | 1:00 PM

In a disappointing turn of events, Southwestern College faced a challenging matchup against Kansas Wesleyan University (KWU) on the baseball field, resulting in a decisive 13-0 loss.

KWU wasted no time asserting their dominance, as in the very first inning, slugger C. Oxford smashed a towering home run to right center, bringing in K. Foster and instantly putting Southwestern on the back foot, trailing 2-0.

The second inning saw KWU extending their lead further, with A. Garcia grounding out to third base but allowing E. Romero to cross the plate, pushing the score to 3-0 in favor of the home team.

The fifth inning proved to be particularly fruitful for KWU, as Foster joined the home run party, launching a shot over the right-field fence, bringing in J. Williamson and widening the gap to 5-0. T. Favretto then added to Southwestern's woes with a single up the middle, driving in J. Gable, further cementing KWU's lead at 6-0. Not content with just one run, KWU's R. Bishop followed suit with a single of his own, bringing in C. Oxford and pushing the lead to 7-0.

KWU's relentless offense continued into the sixth inning, as they piled on the runs. Williamson's aggressive base running paid off, capitalizing on a wild pitch to extend the lead to 8-0. Oxford's double down the right-field line brought in Williamson, while a fielder's choice by Favretto allowed Gable to add another run, putting KWU up 10-0. Bishop's second hit of the game, a single to right field, brought in Oxford, stretching the lead to 11-0. E. Romero's walk with the bases loaded added insult to injury for Southwestern, with K. Roberts crossing the plate, extending the lead to 12-0. The inning concluded with Williamson reaching base on a throwing error by Southwestern's shortstop, allowing Bishop to score, padding KWU's lead to an insurmountable 13-0.

GAME 2 | 3:35 PM

In a tightly contested baseball showdown, Southwestern College faced off against Kansas Wesleyan University (KWU) in a game that ultimately ended with a narrow 2-0 victory for KWU.

The game's only scoring action came in the third inning when KWU's J. Williamso delivered a powerful blow, sending the ball soaring over the right-field fence for a two-run homer. Despite Southwestern's efforts, the runs were unearned, adding to the frustration of the match.

The Builders will be back on March 19th at 1:00 PM when they travel to Sterling, Kan., to battle Sterling College.
