SALINA, KAN. – On Wednesday, March 27
th, the Southwestern College Flag Football squad went on the road to battle the Coyotes of Kansas Wesleyan University at Salina, Kan. Unfortunately, the Coyotes dominated the field against the Builders as they delivered a commanding performance that led to a decisive victory with a final score of 38-6.
From the onset, Kansas Wesleyan asserted their dominance, setting the tone with a strong showing in the 1st quarter. Quarterback Chihiro Iwata orchestrated the offense masterfully, connecting with Jayla Howes for a 5-yard touchdown pass early in the quarter, followed by another touchdown pass to Angel Roman from 12 yards out, putting Kansas Wesleyan ahead 14-0.
The 2nd quarter saw Kansas Wesleyan continuing their offensive onslaught, with Iwata threading the needle to find Jazmine Whitfield for a 1-yard touchdown pass, extending their lead to 20-0. Aaliyah Young joined the scoring frenzy, hauling in two touchdown passes from Iwata, one from 1 yard and another from 10 yards, further widening the gap to 32-0 by halftime.
Despite Southwestern College's efforts to mount a comeback, their offense struggled to gain momentum through the 1st and 2nd quarters. However, they found a spark in the 4th quarter as
Vivianna Solis connected with
Devina Lytle for a 1-yard touchdown pass, putting Southwestern College on the scoreboard at 6-32.
Yet, Kansas Wesleyan responded, as Emilee Buhl connected with Jazmine Whitfield for a 5-yard touchdown pass, solidifying their lead at 38-6 as the game clock expired.
The Builders will be back on March 30
th at 2:00 p.m. when they battle the University of Saint Mary at Leavenworth, Kan.
