Builder Softball Earns Victory Over Kansas Christian College in Game 1, 15-14

WINFIELD, KAN. – On Thursday, March 28th, the Southwestern College softball squad hosted play to the Falcons of Kansas Christian College at Broadway Sports Complex in Winfield, Kan.
 
Game 1 – 1:00 PM
 
Southwestern College narrowly edged out Kansas Christian College in a high-scoring affair, with a final score of 15-14.
 
Kansas Christian College started strong, piling up runs in the early innings with a display of powerful hitting. In the second inning, they quickly built a 5-0 lead courtesy of hits from players like L. Shafer, K. Clifton, A. Boles, and C. Green. However, Southwestern College swiftly responded, mounting a comeback with a barrage of their own hits.
 
Southwestern College clawed back with determination, capitalizing on opportunities, and taking advantage of defensive errors. They tied the game at 5-5 in the second inning and continued to trade blows with Kansas Christian College throughout the game.
 
The momentum swung back and forth as both teams fought tooth and nail. Kansas Christian College regained the lead in the third inning, only to see Southwestern College surge ahead in the fourth with a series of hits from players like T. Powers, N. Davis, J. Boyd, S. Showalter, and R. Wright.
 
As the game entered the late innings, tensions ran high. Kansas Christian College managed to tie the game once again in the sixth inning, but Southwestern College delivered the decisive blow with a clutch hit from T. Henry, bringing in the winning runs.
 
Despite a valiant effort from both teams, Southwestern College emerged victorious in a thrilling contest that showcased the resilience and skill of both sides. With a final score of 15-14, Southwestern College secured a hard-fought win.
 
Game 2 – 3:00 PM
 
Kansas Christian College wasted no time asserting their dominance, lighting up the scoreboard early in the game. They set the tone in the first inning with a barrage of hits, including a clutch single from J. Day and a double from A. Akerstrom that brought in runs. L. Shafer's double added to the early lead, putting Kansas Christian College ahead 4-0.
 
Southwestern College fought back in the first inning with a run of their own, courtesy of a double from N. Davis, but Kansas Christian College's offense continued to fire on all cylinders.
 
In the second inning, A. Boles added to the lead with a triple, while T. Butler extended the advantage with a well-placed hit. Despite a response from Southwestern College in the third inning with a run scored by T. Henry, the Falcons maintained control of the game.
 
Kansas Christian College widened the gap in the fifth inning, capitalizing on defensive miscues from Southwestern College to add more runs to their tally.
 
Southwestern College showed resilience in the fifth inning with a couple of runs, including another double from N. Davis, but it wasn't enough to halt Kansas Christian College's momentum.
 
In the final inning, Kansas Christian College added an insurance run to seal the victory, with K. Clifton delivering a timely single to extend their lead and win the game 12-4.
 
The Builders will be back on Saturday, March 30th at 1:00 p.m. when they battle McPherson College at Broadway Sports Complex in Winfield, Kan.
