WINFIELD, Kan. — Avila University swept both games of the doubleheader at Broadway Sports Complex, 13-0, 15-2.
Game 1 vs. Avila | Southwestern 0 Avila 13
In Game one, Avila wasted no time piling on runs early and often to secure the 13-0 win over Southwestern.
Southwestern allowed 13 runs on 13 hits and SC was only able to gain two hits throughout the game. Gina Hernandez and Tiara Henry recorded the only Builder hits.
Pitchers Emma Willesden and Jordan Gates struggled to contain Avila's powerful lineup.
Game 2 vs. Avila | Southwestern 2 Avila 15
Game two saw a similar narrative unfold, with Avila continuing their offensive onslaught to clinch a 15-2 victory over Southwestern. Although Southwestern managed to put up two runs in the second inning, led by Hernandez's timely double, it wasn't enough to counter Avila's attack.
Natalie Davis and Gina Hernandez each got hits, however, Avila's pitching and defense proved to be too much to overcome.
The losses drop Southwestern's to 2-18 overall, 0-8 in the KCAC.
The Builders are back at home March 28, against Kansas Christian College for another double header, first pitch is at 1pm.
