SALINA, Kan. — In a stunning upset, Kansas Wesleyan pulled off a remarkable comeback to defeat No. 9 Southwestern 76-71 in the KCAC semifinal matchup at the Mabee Arena.
Southwestern scored the first eight points and built a commanding lead. At one point leading by as many as 12 points in the first half and 11 points in the second half.
But the game came down to the final three minutes.
With just over three minutes remaining, Southwestern held a 71-64 lead. However, Kansas Wesleyan rallied with a remarkable 12-0 run in the final 3:35 of the game.
Kansas Wesleyan's Alex Littlejohn sank two critical free throws with 4.2 seconds left on the clock, capping off the comeback and securing the stunning upset.
Despite being the NAIA's leading scorer, Cevin Clark finished with 18 points and shooting 1-of-8 from the field in the second half.
Andrew O'Brien had 13 points and seven rebounds.
Justin DeMaria had 12 points and three rebounds.
Jarvis Jennings finished with 11 points and eight rebounds.
Zach Hidalgo led the Builders in rebounds with nine and added eight points.
The Builders will now wait for their seed to be announced on Thursday, March 7,  on the 2023-2024 NAIA Men's Basketball Championship Tournament selection show, broadcast on the NAIA's YouTube Channel.
